In this lesson I am going to show you how to paint some cool looking skulls.

These sheilds are designed for the airbrusher at heart, they are great for creating scenes or adding fill to a graphic quickly and easily.

I am using black paint on a white surface. But it also looks effective using white paint on a black surface. I am starting with the skull in the middle of the sheild that is in a positive format.

I begin by using some two inch masking tape around the area that I am starting with. I do this for two reasons. 1.To hold my sheild in place and 2. To mask the exposed areas from any overspray.

I paint around the entire edges of the skull by painting along the sheild and allowing the overspray to drift onto the surface.

A common mistake most people make when using a sheild is that they paint in the entire exposed area. I'm going to show you the correct way and that is to paint along the edges of the sheild allowing the overspray to do the work for you. This gives a much more three dimensional effect.

Tip:
Angle your airbrush in the direction you want the overspray to go and bring your airbrush further away from the surface to create softer fuller blends.

Now that I have removed the sheild you can see the areas that have been painted.

You can start to see the results I spoke about in the first step. It has already started to gain some dimension.
